My name is the Reading Machine. I love to read! I sometimes average 4 or 5 books a week. I read mostly factual, information books. I love biographies and prefer autobiographies. I like to learn from the examples of others.
Mistakes to avoid. I don't feel obligated to make every mistake in life. I am happy to learn from the mistakes of others.
Paths to follow. What one man or woman can do, another can do (with the help of God Almighty). I get some great ideas by reading about what others have done.
Classics. The Bible, the Koran, the Art of War, the Illiad, Homer, Socrates, Plato. All these provide a broad background to help interpret the world around me.
Instructional volumes. Automotive repair, home repair, copywriting, cooking, cleaning, gardening, freelancing. I like to learn all kinds of new things. I might be an addict. An information junkie, so to speak.
Fiction. I do read a limited amount of fiction. I read all of the Edgar Rice Burroughs "Tarzan" series when I was a kid. And re-read them later in life. Recently, I started reading Terry Pratchett because my daughter recommended them to me.
I decided to start this blog to share my love of reading.
President Harry Truman once said that "a leader is a reader." The implication being that if you wanted to be a good leader, you were going to need to read a lot of books so you would be exposed to a lot of great ideas. My desire is to expose you to the great ideas in the books I read, and hopefully, spark your desire to read more.
